5 Reasons to Watch The Greatest Showman

Number One: The music: Every single song on the soundtrack of The Greatest Showman begs to be sung along to, and the lyrics are thoughtful and stunning.

And buried in your bones there’s an ache that you can’t ignore

Taking your breath, stealing your mind

and all that was real is left behind

It’s fire, it’s freedom, it’s flooding open

It’s a preacher in the pulpit and you’ll find devotion'

I am not a stranger to the dark

“hide away” they say

“cause we don’t want your broken parts”

I’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars

“Run away” they say

“No one’ll love you as you are”

But I won’t let them break me down to dust

I know that there’s a place for us

For we are glorious

Number Two:

The characters: They are nuanced and relatable, and every one of them is very relevant and real. These are people that you know, people you love; maybe they’re you.

Number Three:

The costumes: Oooohh, the costumes. If you’re like me, and would legitimately see a movie for the costume design alone, this film is for you.

Number Four:

Zendaya and Zac Efron doing trapeze: There is a scene between Zendaya and Zac Efron’s characters in the second half of the film where they have some pretty cool trapeze choreography. And it’s actually them. They learned trapeze for that scene. (and Zendaya for the whole movie) It’s already a powerful sequence, but that little tidbit just adds to it.

Number Five:

This is the movie we need right now: Given it’s historical setting, the power and social relevance of this film took me a little by surprise. It tackles issues of racism, classism, ableism, and general discrimination with the backdrop of a stellar cast, stunning visuals, and a powerfully emotional soundtrack.
