Soulless: Ray of Hope Game Review
Soulless : Ray of hope is a side scrolling, linear puzzle adventure. You play as Elin, a adorable winged teddy bear who wants to save his boy from his troubled home and the seven deadly sins.
Endless levers, steps, jumps, buttons and portals coupled with frequent checkpoints and the built in ability to flutter makes the puzzles just the right level of difficult. With a full story and a three different endings to unlock, Soulless will keep you entranced in it’s haunting world for quite a while.
Before I say anything , it must first be said the Soulless: Ray of hope is the first published game for developers Frisky Fatal Games, who is a team of two in Serbia. If this is their very first released game, I am thrilled to see what they can come up with next. Soulless is beautiful; the bright contrast of the protagonist against the dusk or dark background makes for a bold and stunning artistic choice. The soundtrack is a haunting lullaby and couldn’t be any more well suited to the artwork and of course you have to love three different endings to uncover. It really extends the game play for a puzzle game.
But the puzzles were a tiny bit stale. It gave me the feeling as though I had done them before in almost any other side scroller game. The incomplete story presentation didn’t inspire me to keep playing. Creepy kid fights demons in a spooky world is all over the game world right now. It just wasn’t a new enough concept to keep me going.
But overall 8 out of 10 . If artwork and soundtrack over story are priority in a game you're looking for then this fits the bill just right and there’s nothing wrong with that. As for me I’m going to waiting patiently to see if Frisky Fatal games has anything else to share with us.
