Cos-Losseum Con Review

Over the weekend I was able to attend Cos-Losseum Cosplay Con. Since I’m a mom, I always have to ask myself if this is something my son and I can do together. Prior to going to the Con, I did my usual routine of looking over the website to see if there was a child’s track and/or programming geared to children. I didn’t see either but because it was the Con’s first year, I didn’t necessarily expect to see much.

Since I knew there wasn’t anything directly geared toward children, I went solo to see if it would work for us to go together next year. There were a few families, but I did get a chance to talk to some of the kids and their families. Many found the volunteers working for the Con and the participants at the Con to be open to their kids attending the panels, workshops, and other events at the Con.

However, the hands-on activities were geared toward adults. and many of the panel discussions on how to make costumes, props, etc. was above most kids' heads, but might interest a teen depending on their experience and hobbies. There were the usual panels with celebrities. In this case, Power Rangers, which might interest both kids and teens depending on interest and familiarly with the invited guests.

The dealer room had the usual collection of stuffed dolls and animals, jewelry and crafts. Much of it was geared to Anime and mostly priced more than I would spend on a toy that might be lost before we left the con.

To summarize, the advantages were the small size of the cons, the chance to see people in character, and if there is an interest, a chance for kids/ teens to dress up themselves.
