What's Going to Happen on GAME OF THRONES This Season?
***Book and TV show spoilers follow***
Winter is coming - Scratch that; winter is here! After what feels like an eternity, everyone's favorite medieval/fantasy/political drama about dragons and ice zombies has returned on HBO.
There's a real air of mystery this time around, as the progress of the TV show has completely left the books' storyline in the dust at this point, so book readers are now on the same footing as fans who have only watched the show... meaning NO ONE has insight into what's going to happen. Season six was similar "fresh territory" last year, and while the R+L=J fan theory came true, I don't think ANYONE was expecting the revelations of Melisandre's age and the origins of Hodor. So without further ado, here are some completely arbitrary possibilities for Season 7:
CLEGANEBOWL - A lot of fans have been hoping for a battle between the Clegane Brothers, and now that we know The Hound is still alive, I think it's very likely they'll meet… I’m not feeling too hopeful about the Hound’s chances of surviving against his zombified brother, though.
Odds: 3-1
LADY STONEHEART – It breaks my own stony heart to admit it, but I really don’t think Catelyn Stark’s reanimated corpse is going to show up seeking revenge like she does in the books. I wanted to see it, too, but it just wouldn’t make sense at this point in the story. Beric Dondarrion is featured in the Season 7 trailers, though, so maybe he’s going to bring someone back to life…

THE RETURN OF GENDRY – Seriously, where has Gendry been? He rowed away to safety in Season 3, and it’s become a running joke among fans that he’s still out there somewhere… Rowing and rowing… Personally, I call him Chekov’s Bastard. There’s no way the story ends without him playing some part in the action. Actor Joe Dempsie was even at the red carpet premiere this week. Yes, Gendry’s coming back, y’all!
Odds: 1-1
JAMIE KILLS CERSEI –Cersei has spent her whole life misinterpreting Maggy the Frog’s prophecy: She expects her brother Tyrion will try to kill her, but I think Jamie’s going to be the one to do it (Just as she thought the “younger, more beautiful queen” who would be her undoing was Margaery, when it seems pretty apparent it will actually be Daenerys). If Jamie takes out his twin sister it will be so much more poetic for both characters – The question is, will it happen this season or in one of the final episodes next year? My money’s on 2018.

VARYS IS A MERMAID – Have you heard of this viral theory that purports Varys’ hairlessness and nonreaction to Tyrion threatening to drown him in the sea means he is a mermaid? Look it up if you don’t believe me. Odds: THIS IS GONNA HAPPEN. IT’S SO OBVIOUS!!! ;-P
Do you have any other predictions for Season 7? Will the Wall come down? Will Arya be reunited with her surviving siblings – Or with Nymeria? Someone HAS to take down Littlefinger, right? Personally, I don’t even care who ends up on the Iron Throne anymore, as long as Brienne and Tormund survive, fall in love, and live happily ever after with a gaggle of enormous children.
