Atomic Blonde Review

Nostalgia! This movie had so much 80’s fun from the music to the chain smoking and exact costuming, Atomic Blonde was brutally amazing. It was smart, not just the action porn that I expected from the previews, but an actual spy movie. Yes, it was violent, but that only added to it’s authenticity. It had an engaging story and characters that you never trusted, but loved to watch.

Charlize Theron as Lorraine Broughton was sooo convincing. Her fight scenes were captivating as she used anything heavy nearby to beat her a way out of situations. Sofia Boutella and James McAvoy were competent companions as spies and we are never sure of their motives until the very end.

My only critique is that I didn’t understand why Lorraine and Delphine spent a lot of time in their underwear. I would think that spies would at least be partially dressed when they are at home by themselves, even in the 80’s.

The non-stop action of the film, the engaging plot, and the setting of Berlin just before the wall came down, make this a movie you should see as soon as possible. The fight scenes and their musical accompaniment make seeing this one on the big screen worth the price of admission. I’d recommend that you see this one in the theater and also download the soundtrack.
