Top 10 New Shows
Just as we are wiping our tears for the characters that we lost in this year’s season finales, the new shows have been announced. These are my top ten for the winners next year. At the very least these are the pilots I am going to watch.
Number 10: Seth MacFarlane’s “THE ORVILLE”
Network: Fox. Trailer here.
What I think it is about: A less than competent Seth MacFarlane bumbles through space as the commander of an exploratory ship in a futuristic comedy.
What I like about it: A comedy about an intergalactic space mission with Adrianne Palicki (Bobbi Morse of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
What makes me nervous: It’s Seth MacFarlane. Also, will the gags get old?
Number 9: The Awesome Show
Network: NBC
Trailer: Not available at this time
What I think it is about: Chris Hardwick geeks out about science and technology.
What I like about it: Chris Hardwick! I am a fan. Also, I like Science.
What makes me nervous: No preview yet
Number 8: Seal Team
Network: CBS
Trailer: here
What I think it is about: A Seal team deals with the physical and psychological demands of combat both at home and on mission.
What I like about it: It stars David Boreanaz. I also like a good hero story, and shows that give a larger perspective of a character’s life. The combat, family and general coping of life as a soldier looks interesting.
What makes me nervous: It could get too hard to watch. If there isn’t at least a little joy, a show like this one could lose me quickly if it gets too dark.
Number 7: The Punisher
Network: Netflix
No trailer available yet
What I think it is about: More adventures of the character The Punisher from the Daredevil series on Netflix.
What I like about it: I enjoyed this character in the Daredevil series and I am interested in seeing what he can do on his own.
What makes me nervous: No real information
Number 6: Marvel’s Inhumans
Network: ABC
Trailer here
What I think it is about:
While I don’t know for sure, I think that this might be closer to the comics then the Inhumans we have met on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Possibly even take place on a different planet. I am anxious to learn more.
What I like about it: It’s Marvel!
What makes me nervous: Information has been spotty about what this will be. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had many episodes I just watched out of loyalty so it is possible this will garner the same level of enthusiasm.
Number 5: Star Trek Discovery
Network: CBS All Access
Trailer here
What I think it is about: A group of individuals from various planets of origin investigate the wonders of the galaxy, solving problems, and making relationships as they go.
What I like about it: Star Trek! I mean, need I say more
What makes me nervous: I don’t have an affinity for any of the actors yet except Jason Isaacs, and I still haven’t been able to clean the marks on my mind left from the movie A Cure For Wellness.
Number 4: Black Lightning
Network: The CW
Trailer here
What I think it is about: A family stands up for their community using a super suit and super powers.
What I like about it: Family super hero fun
What makes me nervous: CW lets their super hero stuff get dark out of nowhere and this show has potential for that.
Number 3: The Gifted
Network: Fox
Trailer here
What I think it is about: Kids with super powers struggle to hide their identity and fight for what is right in a world that is trying to destroy them because of their powers.
What I like about it: It’s Marvel. It has super powers in it, and at its core it looks like it’s about family. I am also a huge fan of Amy Acker, and I am excited to see Coby Bell again. Although I am hoping he isn’t the bad guy.
What makes me nervous: It’s on Fox (They have a history of being cancel happy.). Something about it reminds me of Heroes. I loved that show but it just had too many characters to maintain the emotional level needed to properly enjoy it.
Number 2: Ghosted
Network: Fox
Trailer here
What I think it is about: An unlikely pair investigate the paranormal; hilarity ensues.
What I like about it: It looks hilarious. Seriously, watch the trailer. Plus, Sarah Baker is in it.It also stars Craig Robinson and Adam Scott. It’s like a funnier version of Men in Black because it does not take itself seriously at all. I’m totally in – well, for the pilot at least.
What makes me nervous: Fox again. Also, I'm concerned that they will not be able to maintain that level of funny. I am worried that after a few episodes, watching them smack each other in the face will lose its zest.
Number 1: The Defenders
Network: Netflix
Trailer here
What I think it is about: A continuation of the Netflix Marvel Universe where all our favorite heroes team up.
What I like about it: I loved all of the shows that come before it: Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Dare Devil, and yes, even Iron Fist. I am super excited to see them all come together.
What makes me nervous: Failure really isn’t an option; my heart couldn’t take it. That much expectation is dangerous.
