Axanar is Here

Breaking News: Axanar (the Star Trek fan film) has come to Atlanta!

Axanar is the fan made film set in the Star Trek universe. It tells the story of Garth, “Captain Kirk’s legendary hero” whose win at the battle of Axanar during the Four Year’s War “solidified the Federation and allowed it to become the entity we know in Kirk’s time.”

The making of Axanar hit a snag over legal disputes involving copyright laws. But finally, the creator and crew have reached an agreement with CBS Studios, Inc. and Paramount Pictures, who own the rights to Star Trek. (full press release here). As part of the legal agreement, the actors who have been in Star Trek that already have parts in Axanar can keep filming, but cannot do any other Star Trek fan film projects.

Now, Axanar has come to Atlanta (well Lawrenceville) Georgia to film two fifteen minutes episodes for the Axanar film project. It started out as an Indigogo campaign, and depsite the move, plans to stay true to its donors. I cannot wait to see what they have in store and watching them boldly go where no man has gone before.

The Axanar Project website let us know: We are happy to announce that we will be relocating the Axanar sets to Atlanta, Georgia at the end of this month. Atlanta is the third largest film production city in the US and our new facility will cost approximately 25% of our current lease. The 6,000sf of space is in fantastic condition and is fully air conditioned, a must for shooting in hot Atlanta summers. We are very excited about the new facility and think it will make a great long-term home for all the Star Trek and science fiction projects we have planned.

There have also been indications that Axanar will be casting as well as filming in the Atlanta area, making it easier for fans to be involved. Squeeee!!!
