The Real Pug Life: Game Reviews
There are several spin-off versions of Turbo Pug, but these three can come as a bundle on Steam called Pug Life. Because, really who can resist such a cleverly named bundle? All the games are arcade style casual runners with no end and no levels, but that doesn’t detract any from the game play. These games do not take themselves seriously at all.
Turbo Pug is the first installment and has our brachycephalic hero on a field of grass with clear blue skies as far as the eye can see. He is charging headlong into...everything...and promptly vaporizing upon impact. The only thing the player can do is hope to make his little legs leap at just the right time and hope he can avoid the next hurdle. Or random saw blade poking up from the ground. Or lava puddle. Once you hit the obstacle the game is over and you must start again on a new randomly generated level. Sporadically occurring weather can sometimes bring lighting which temporarily paralyzes the pup but recovers pretty quickly
In Super Space Pug, we join our canine companion deep in the reaches of space. He is rapidly navigating huge asteroids and evil looking space cats who will surely bring us only doom. Complete with helmet and doggy sized jet pack, this installment brings the opportunities for temporary upgrades of super speed or a shield. This one also comes with the ability to maneuver with the mouse and five lives each with a little HP. Super Space Pug will continue to fire missiles and ninja stars to break up the larger hindrances as long as they can manage to avoid flying straight into the debris.
Finally, we come to Super Mega Neo Pug. Our curly tailed friend has now gained the ability to fly with a cape through several randomly generated skies. Bizarre objects and animals float in your flying zone trying to block your path. There is also a square off with a cat flying a mech, who also tries to shoot you out of the sky. No ammo on this one. Again, all you can hope to do is navigate correctly and try to catch some power ups, before you run into a pterodactyl or something.
Overall these games are a good chuckle and a lot of fun. If you're a pug fan the novelty will last longer than the average person but outside of that audience it would be a great “I need a laugh” type of game.
