Kong Skull Island Review
The latest and (in this humble reviewers opinion) the best rendition of the tale of King Kong comes to theaters March 10th. The movie starts off strong with a heavy action sequence and the audience is immediately brought back in time. The movie begins during World War II, but spends most of its time at the end of the Vietnam war. This allows the viewer to easily settle into a suspension of disbelief about the historical accuracy and types of used technology for the decade. The soundtrack helps lull us into that comfort zone of a showy action film that isn't heavy on accuracy.
The movie was wonderfully cast with Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson playing our leads; John Goodman and Samuel L Jackson playing the scientist and the soldier and John C Reilly stealing the show with comedic relief. Corey Hawkins is also an honorable mention as Houston Brooks, a young scientist whose theories are why they are on the island in the first place and whose life I was consistently rooting for.
Kong Skull Island is a monster movie! It’s a tense shoulders, cover your eyes, grit your teeth monster movie. You should see this movie in the theater and this is a film that is worth paying the extra money for IMAX 3D. I haven’t been so impressed with a monster film since the first Jurassic Park. I loved it. Stay til the very end for a fun post credit scene.
