Best Picture Showcase

It is officially Oscar season so that means that it is time for the AMC Best Picture Showcase! This will be my 6th year attending and this is one of two yearly events that I geek out about. The AMC Best Picture Showcase is a two weekend event leading up to the Academy Awards where you can see all of the movies that have been nominated for the category of Best Picture. Usually there are 8-10 movies that are nominated. This two day event takes place on the two Saturdays leading up to the Academy Awards.

This event has led to the creation of a loyal fan-base and it continues to gain popularity each year. Many attendees like myself, guess during the course of the year what movies might get nominated and will not go see movies that we think will make the cut. That way, we get to experience them for the very first time at the showcase.

This is a fantastic event to go to for all the movie lovers out there. The entire event is around $65 per person and that is to see all the nominated movies, and you also score a $10 credit for concessions. This year there are 9 movies that have been nominated so AMC will show 4 movies on Day 1 and 5 movies on Day 2. After each movie there is a break when you can run to the bathroom or stock up on more snacks. This is also a great time to converse with other showcase movie goers to discuss the movie that you previously viewed; rank the movies that have been nominated and even try to determine what movie might win Best Picture. Between the last two movies there is a longer break where most people leave the theater to go grab a bite to eat for dinner.

The best part of this experience for me has been being alongside fellow movie lovers where we can share our love for movies and experience the greatest films that have been made for each year. There is a true sense of community that is built around this event because guests come back year after year wanting more and having higher expectations for the movies that have been nominated. Guests and also bring newbies into the mix so that they can share this wonderful experience and their love for movies with family and friends.
