Smart Shows for Little Girls
As a geeky mom who loves TV, my little girl may watch a little more than she should. So I definitely point her towards cartoons that will put imaginative, smart and strong females in front of her. If you have a preschool girl, or even a boy, these are the current shows that I would recommend for them to watch. You will find them all on PBS, Disney Jr., Nick Jr., and Netflix.
The Wild Kratts
Though fronted by two guys, the brains behind the operation are two women. Aviva is a young bio-mechanical engineer and she creates all their animal morphing suits and other inventions. Koki is the ship’s mechanic and computer whiz with a snappy personality. These women truly represent women overcoming stereotypes.
Odd Squad
Odd Squad is all about math and actually has a good mixture of boys and girls in it. Proving girls are just as good as boys when it comes to numbers
Word Girl
It's a show about a female superhero with the power of words. What more is there to say. Oh, and she has a cool monkey sidekick named Captain Huggypants.
PJ MASKS
A team of 2 boys and 1 girl who are little kids by day and superheroes by night. Your little girl can be an adventurous crime fighter along with Owlette aka Amaya because girls are more than just pretty, we kick butt too.
Kate and Mim Mim
I love this show for my girl. It brings a world of fantasy to life. I truly believe any girl that is able to dream and imagine when she is little, will be able to dream and imagine great things when she is grown.
Nella the Princess Knight
Just ran across this show and have never seen it, but the title alone makes it a must for my daughter. Especially since she told me she wants to be a Knight Princess when she grows up. I love that it is bending the stereotype and that girls can be both a pretty princess and a strong knight.
Mia and Me
This cartoon shows the real life struggle of not being the popular girl in a new school. Luckily, she has a magic book that transforms her into a fantasy world of fairies and unicorns. Once there, she is a strong and confident leader who helps solve problems and in turn, gains more and more confidence in her real world.
